James 1:5-8, If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
We play a part in receiving God’s wonderful gift of wisdom. We must believe God loves and cares for us, and that nothing is impossible with Him. We must learn God’s Word, take God at His Word, and, then, ask for wisdom in faith. All of God’s great gifts come through faith. Here are a few other examples:
Ephesians 2:8, It is by grace you are saved through faith…
Ephesians 3:12, In Christ and through faith in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
Hebrews 11:6, And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
John 6:35, Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 11:25, Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;”
This is a short list of a long litany of promises found in Scripture of what belief or faith in God can accomplish. James adds to the list by telling us when we have undoubting faith when we ask for wisdom, God generously gives it to us to meet the specific needs of our lives.
Question to Consider:
What situation in your life is requiring you to ask God for wisdom? How can others pray for you?
