UPDATE 5/14/2021 – With the CDC announcement on May 13th that masks are no longer needed for fully vaccinated people indoors or outdoors, we are removing the mask requirement at Blue Grass gatherings beginning immediately rather than waiting until May 23rd as previously communicated.
Masks are still welcome but optional beginning this Sunday, May 16th.
An update from Pastor Doug regarding masks in worship at Blue Grass Church:
As previously written, I said we would consider lifting the mask requirement if COVID numbers remained low, and once everyone had the opportunity to be vaccinated who wanted to be.
So, Sunday, May 23rd will mark 7 ½ weeks that everyone 16 and older in Indiana will have been able to receive two shots plus the two extended weeks to have full vaccination protection. Depending on the shot received that process could take up to 6 weeks to accomplish. So, we have provided an additional week and half buffer to allow this to happen for those who wanted to be vaccinated.
In addition to the availability of vaccination, we have seen a steady low number of COVID cases in Vanderburgh County over the past several weeks. In consultation with some of our own professional health personnel, we are going to lift the mask requirement and make it optional for in-person gatherings beginning Sunday, May 23rd.
We will still provide adequate socially-distanced seating in the Worship Center, as well as in the overflow rooms. We are providing a few complete rows at the front of the Worship Center for those who feel comfortable sitting closer to one another.
For those who want to continue to wear masks, please do so. We want everyone who worships in-person to feel as comfortable and safe as possible. We understand we may be at different places in our comfort levels so we are trying to accommodate as many as possible.
As conditions continue to change, we will be prepared to do so as well. (In either direction.)
