Welcome!
If you're looking for a home, Blue Grass Church just might be the family for you.  We are a growing dynamic congregation on the Northeast side of Evansville, Indiana.  But our heart is much larger than our geography.  We share a love for Christ that extends through our church and community into the world.  You will find passionate worshipers, serious seekers, and unselfish servants.  If you're looking for a church family that will warmly welcome you and lovingly encourage your faith development, then we invite you to experience what many others have found: a home for your heart.

Bio
Pastor Doug Heiman has been serving Blue Grass as lead shepherd since 1996.  He previously served Marengo UMC.  During seminary he served churches in Seymour, his hometown.  He graduated from Asbury College, magna cum laude, and Asbury Theological Seminary.  He has served on various denominational boards and committees.  He was awarded the Harry Denman Award for Evangelism in 2002 for the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.  He is married to Jody and has two sons, Ethan and Caleb.  He enjoys spending time with family and staying active with tennis, softball, and basketball.  He has recently picked up previous interests of gardening and motorcyle riding.

A Bit of History
Blue Grass had its beginning in 1824 and was established as a Methodist congregagtion by Circuit Riders.  It is named after Blue Grass Creek that runs through the area. It developed a reputation for being a center of activity for the community.  The former Community House built in 1921 became a central hangout over the years for numerous people in the rural area.  It was a haven for sports, food, and fellowship.  Some long standing traditions continue like our annual Apple Butter making and Birthday Dinner.

In recent years, the congregation has grown from 1 to 4 worship celebrations, started a pre-school ministry, partnered with a center city church for ministry, and added numerous staff.  As we grow out of space on our current campus, we are preparing for the future with the recent purchase of 23 acres.

An Invitation
I cherish the prayers of others and love to pray with others.  So, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have a prayer need or a praise.  If you have a few moments, I would welcome you to stop by my office on Wednesday mornings at 8 am or Sundays at 7:45 am to pray with me for the church and world.
