Reading the Bible in a Year

The last time we read through the Bible as a congregation was in 2009. So, since we’re declaring 2017 as A Year of Discipleship, we thought this would be a good practice to include once again.

Pastor Doug has created our own Bible reading plan that includes readings from two chapters in the Old Testament, a chapter from the Psalms or Proverbs, and a chapter from the New Testament each week day. On the weekends, the New Testament reading is not included. You can find the first two months of readings below.

There will be a few variations through the year. In reading the Bible straight through, it’s easy to get bogged down in some sections of the Old Testament. The variety of this reading schedule will keep things fresh.

We’ll be providing bookmarks with the daily Scripture references. This information will also be found online.

To help us process everything together, we’ve also created a Facebook Group where you’ll find a link to the daily readings, and can make comments or ask questions as you think through what you’ve read. This will be like a journal for the Blue Grass Body. The comments might include an insight you gained, a question you have, or a personal testimony that you would like to share which applies to that day’s reading.

Weekly messages will come from each week’s readings as well. We look forward to seeing what God will do through our congregation as we engage His Word anew!
